Lesson Notes
  • Ask: Can you follow the steps to make a pattern of congruent triangles? Each time you fold the paper you cut one more triangle. Is there a pattern in the increasing number of triangles you make with each fold? Follow the steps to find out.
  • Provide the opportunity for students to share responses.
  • Direct students to the Investigation and ask: Can you find a way to cut a sheet of folded paper to make an arrow like the one pictured? Start by imagining how you will need to cut the paper and then draw a diagram. Swap your diagram with a partner so they try to make the arrow using your idea.
  • Bring students together to share responses.
  • (Reflection) Provide students with the opportunity to continue experimenting with folding and cutting shapes and patterns of shapes. Encourage students to share any interesting shapes and patterns they make..
