Lesson Notes
  • Direct students to the Investigation on the overhead sheet and ask: What is a tessellating pattern?
  • Direct students to the first pattern and ask: What shape is used to create this pattern? How is the position of the shape changed each time to create the pattern?
  • Repeat for several more patterns.
  • Direct students to carry out the task.
  • Move around the room and ask: (Reflection) What shape did you use to create this pattern? Can you tell me how you changed the position of the shape each time to create the pattern?
ReflectionsAsk: Can you make up a tessellating pattern of your own on the dot paper? (See Activity 385)
