| Keywords | Volume and Capacity |
| Grouping | Whole class, independent and small group. |
| Resources | 1 cm cubes may be required. Copy the activity to an overhead sheet, an overhead projector. |
| Lesson Notes |
- Direct students to the net A on the overhead activity sheet and ask: What do you need to find out? What information do you have? (Shape, length, width and height of the rectangular prism - cube.) If you folded the net into a rectangular prism what would it look like? Can you sketch a picture of it with your hands? Can you tell me how wide, long and high it would be? Why do you think that?
- Direct students to use to solve the problem. (Cubes could be used to build a model.)
- Place students into small groups and ask: (Reflection) Can you agree on the answer?
- Bring groups together to share responses.
- Direct students to find the volume for each of the remaining rectangular prisms.
