| Lesson Notes | - Direct pairs to the Investigation and ask: What do you need to do? What steps do you need to follow? How will you begin your planning? (Plan the start point and place to hide the 'treasure'.) How will you show directions on your map?
- (Compass points.) How will you show distances on your map? (Metres.)
- Direct pairs to carry out the Investigation.
- Move around pairs and ask: (Reflection) What is the start and finish points for your map? Can you describe the route your map will follow? Can you tell me about the directions and distances you have recorded for your map? Why do you think that direction is ...? Why do you think that distance is ... metres? Do you think someone could easily follow your map? Have you checked the accuracy of your map?
- Provide pairs with the opportunity to exchange maps and use them to locate treasures.
- Bring pairs together and ask: (reflection) Were you able to follow the map you were given to the correct location? How would you rate the map you used for its ease of use? Very easy, Quite good, A little difficult, Very difficult. Why do you think that?
