  • Provide each student in the groups with a copy of activity sheet A.
  • Direct groups to the activity sheet and ask: What comes next in each pattern? I want you to agree on what the next shape is in each pattern.
  • Direct students to draw in the next shape in each pattern.
  • Provide the opportunity for groups to share responses. See Reflections.
  • Provide each student with a copy of activity sheet B and ask: Can you complete the shape patterns in each box? Can you tell me how you would finish the first pattern? Second pattern? ...
  • Direct students to carry out the task.
  • Place students back into their groups and ask: Share your patterns in your group. Can you make sure everyone has done the patterns correctly?
  • Provide groups with the opportunity to share responses. See Reflections.
