| Lesson Notes | - Provide children with each of the items above and ask: What do you need to find out in the first activity? What will you do to the newspaper sheets to fit them inside the pot? Will you fill the pot to overflowing or just to the top? How many newspaper sheets do you think you can fit inside the pot? What will you do to each sheet of newspaper to fill the pot with as many as you can?
- Direct children to carry out each task and to record the number of sheets that fit inside each time.
- Move around the class and ask: How many sheets fill this container? Which of these 2 containers is bigger? Smaller? How do you know it is bigger? Smaller? Which container will take the most time to fill? Least time? Why will the ... take the most time to fill? Least time?
- Provide an opportunity for children to describe how many sheets of newspaper fill different containers.
