Lesson Notes
  • Provide each child with a copy of the activity sheet.
  • Ask: How many different ways do we use water in the home? Brainstorm for ideas from children relating usage to amount used and need to conserve water.
  • For example: The children may suggest watering the garden. Ask: How often should we water the garden? Do we water the garden more often at certain times of the year? How long should a sprinkler be on to water the lawn? Do you know what days you can water the garden in your home? Who waters our garden at school? How long are the sprinklers left on?...
  • As children suggest uses show them on the board as a spider map of ideas connected to the central topic - Water Usage.
  • After all suggestions have been made and discussed ask: I want you to list all of these ideas on your activity sheet.
  • How will you make a list? How many ideas will be in your list? Does it matter which idea is first or last on your list?
  • Direct children to create their list.
ReflectionsAsk: What other lists do you make? What lists might your parents make? What lists might a teacher make? What lists might a policeman make? ...
