| Lesson Notes | - Children require the opportunity to freely play with and explore the capacity of different containers.
- To carry out this activity it will be necessary to work with small groups of children at a water-play container. Ask the focus questions.
- Select 3 or 4 containers that are different shapes, sizes and materials. Ensure that one container, such as a 1 L plastic drink bottle, holds about 5 cupfuls of water.
- Direct children to Task 1 and ask: Which container holds the most water? What do you think? How can you find out? What did you find out?
- Direct children to draw the container that holds the most water.
- Repeat for Task 2 and task 3.
