| Lesson Notes | - Children should have some experience with handling and sorting clothes in class. Ask: How have you sorted the clothes in your group? How are all the clothes in this group the same? How are they different to the clothes in the next group?
- How are all of these groups the same? (all clothes) Why do we sort clothes into groups?...
- Provide each child with a copy of the activity sheet. Ask: How are your clothes sorted in your wardrobe and cupboards?
- (folded clothes/hanging clothes; tops/bottoms; small items/large items; shirts/shorts/shoes and socks...)
- Direct children to the activity sheet and ask: I want you to show me how your clothes are sorted into groups. What group might you draw in the first box? And in the second box?
- Direct children to draw more boxes on the back of the activity sheet if required.
- Move around the class and ask: Can you tell me how your clothes are sorted? How many groups will you need to make? How are the clothes in this group all the same? How are the clothes in this group and this group, different?
- Provide children with the opportunity to share their ideas for sorting clothes with the class. Encourage children listening to ask questions such as: "Why did you put the red socks in that group?" "Which groups would you put your school uniform in?"...
