| Lesson Notes | - Direct students to the activity sheet and ask: What do you need to find out? What is meant by exactly half full? Can you think of a way you might solve this problem? Discuss ideas in your groups.
- Bring groups together to share ideas. Ask: Do you think that idea would work? Why do you think that? Do you have a different idea that would also work? What materials would you need? What is the first step in your plan? What would you do next?...
- Direct students to further discuss the strategy they would like to use and to draw pictures to show how they will solve the problem.
- Provide the opportunity for students to share planning ideas.
- Direct students to the reflection on the activity sheet and ask: (Reflection) Decide as a group: What do you think of your plan? Why do you think that about your group's plan? Can you improve your plan?
- Provide groups with the opportunity to carry out their plan.
- Provide groups with the opportunity to share responses.
