- Follow the brainstorm with students working independently on their responses - using number sentences, drawings, models to demonstrate their ideas. Responses may include: 1 is smaller than all other numbers. 1 is the first number we count.

- Place students in pairs to compare and share ideas from which they can add to their personal responses.
- Share ideas from around the class.
- Repeat for the second task on Activity 014A.
