  • Brainstorm for ideas about the first task on Activity 014A.
  • Follow the brainstorm with students working independently on their responses - using number sentences, drawings, models to demonstrate their ideas. Responses may include: 1 is smaller than all other numbers. 1 is the first number we count.
  • 2-2=1 This is 1 person. This is 1 hour on a clock...
  • Place students in pairs to compare and share ideas from which they can add to their personal responses.
  • Share ideas from around the class.
