- Brainstorm ideas for carrying out the investigation. Look for suggestions based on the known data that 1 in 10 people are left-handed.
- Students prepare plans independently. Ask students to share their growing ideas for their plan. Students revise and improve their planning based on ideas from others and questions others ask of their personal planning efforts.
- Students carry out their research and report on their findings and recording strategies, e.g. "I asked 50 children and found 6 were left handed. So I made a table that showed a pattern that went like this to show how many left handed people at our school (of 300): 50-6, 100-12, 150-18, 200-24, 250-30, 300-36 left handers."
