| Lesson Notes | - Discuss common rules for separating groups of digits (commas, spaces, count groups of digits in 3's).
- Look at calculators to see how numbers can be grouped for accurate reading.
- Note: Some calculators will use commas above digits and others below digits. Most calculators require the user to count groups of digits for accurate reading.
- Note: Spaces have been used since computers became common as many early computers used the comma as a decimal point.
- Students work independently to write each number with spaces.
- Place students in pairs to check their work and practice reading numbers.
