Search for MTS Activities

SEARCH OPTIONS

There are 4 search options to help you find exactly what you need:

  • Main Search (go to Main Search) 
  • Quick Keyword Search (go to Home Page)
  • Contents Page Search (click on your selected curriculum at the top of the left menu pane)
  • Keyword Index Search (click on the link second from the top on the left menu pane)

1. Main Search Option

Main Search is based on the Curriculum of your choice and provides very accurate results to address your needs.

  • Enter the Year level(s) - up to 3 - you want to search. Separate multiple year levels using commas (e.g. 2,3,4).
  • Click on the Curriculum drop-box to locate the key strand organiser related to your search, e.g. NUMBER.
  • Click on the second drop-box to further define your search within NUMBER, e.g. Whole Numbers.
  • Click on the third drop-box to specify the mathematics Topic for your seach, e.g. Order Whole Numbers.
  • Click ‘Apply’ to see all of the activities related to your mathematics Topic selection.

Hints

  • If you have Internet Explorer 7 or later you can open multiple activities by holding the Ctrl key and then click on as many activities as you want to view. They will be available as 'tabs' to open and close as required (like flipping through pages of a text).
  • Keywords (e.g. length, area, calculator, investgate...) can also be added to your search for more specific results.

2. Quick Keyword Search Option

The Quick Keyword Search provides convenience and speed – but may achieve more general results than Main Search.

  • Enter the Year level(s) you want to search.
  • Type in a mathematical term or ‘keyword’ in the box, e.g. rounding.
  • Click Apply to see the results of your search, i.e. a list of activities titles you can click on to view/download etc.

Hints

  • You can search mathematical terms as a phrase, e.g. “rounding whole numbers”.
  • Phrases, such as “rounding whole numbers”, must be typed inside speech marks to conduct a search on the phrase rather than a search for rounding + whole + numbers.

3. Contents Pages Search Option

Note: For a paper copy of the MTSonline Contents for your curriculum, click on Printer Friendly Version.

  • Click on your preferred curriculum link at the top of the left menu pane.
  • Select the MTS Set for your search.

Set 1 (for 5-6 year olds)

Set 2 (6-7 year olds)

Set 3 (7-8 year olds)

Set 4 (8-9 year olds)

Set 5 (9-10 year olds)

Set 6 (10-11 year olds)

Set 7 (11-12 year olds)

  • Scan down the Contents to find the Topic you wish to search, e.g. Order Whole Numbers.
  • Move your cursor over the activities to read their titles.
  • Left click on any activity number listed for the Topic to view/download/print that activity.

4. Keyword Index Search Option

All activities in the database are linked to one or more mathematics terms.

  • To search by mathematical keyword terms click on the Keyword Index link on the left menu pane.
  • Select the MTS Set for your search.

Set 1 (for 5-6 year olds)

Set 3 (7-8 year olds)

Set 4 (8-9 year olds)

Set 5 (9-10 year olds)

Set 6 (10-11 year olds)

Set 7 (11-12 year olds)

  • Scan down the numero/alpha list to find the term that meets your needs, e.g. distortion.
  • Move your cursor over the associated activities to read their titles.
  • Left click on any activity number listed for the Topic to view/download/print that activity.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH ACTIVITIES FROM A SEARCH?

1. View, Download, Print, Bookmark Activities

  • The results of each search will be listed for you to View (click on the Activity title), Download and Print (click on the Word or PDF icon) or Bookmark (click on Bookmark icon).
  • When you click on an activity title to View it opens onscreen and listed adjacent to the activity will be links to suggested similar activities from earlier and later year levels (if available).

2. Lesson Planning

  • Following a search you can use the activities you find (and/or bookmark) in conjunction with My Lesson Planner to create a program of lessons for a day, week or month.

RECORDING ACTIVITIES USED IN THE CLASSROOM

Every time you open an activity you can choose to record it as used in the classroom.

1. Recording Activities Used (1)

  • When you open an activity to View (using any of the 3 search options) you will see the link 'I have taught this activity'.
  • If you decide to use the activity in the classroom click on the link 'I have taught this activity'. 
  • When you next look at the MTSonline Contents you will see that activity is now highlighted in green.
  • After you have selected and used 3 activities from a Topic the whole Topic will be highlighted by a band of green.
  • Thus, at a glance, you can see where you have spent teaching time. 
  • If you don't use the activity you can click on 'I have not taught this activity' to remove the highlight.

 2. Recording Activities Used (2)

  • Click on the Contents Pages link at the top of the left menu pane.
  • Select an MTS Set.
  • Right click on an activity that you have used, or intend to use in the classroom.
  • The activity will be highlighted (as 'used') in green.
  • If you don't use the activity, right click on it a second time to remove the highlight. 
  • After you have selected and used 3 activities from a Topic the whole Topic will be highlighted by a band of green.
  • Thus, at a glance, you can see where you have spent teaching time.
