Using the Test Item Bank

MTSonline provides a mastery/diagnostic test for every Curriculum topic at every Year level.

1. Go to the MTS Features menu and click on the link Test Item Bank Guidelines to download both the Test Guidelines.pdf and Coverpage.pdf

2. To see the Tests for your Curriculum and Year level click on Search Option 1.

1. The Tests are located adjacent to the sub-strand organisers of each Curriculum.
2. Tests are available for all content topics within a sub-strand.
3. A Test Marking Key can be downloaded.
4. A Student Record Sheet can be downloaded.

1. To view and download a Test click on the Test title.

1. The Test appears as a picture to view.
2. You can choose to download the Test as a Word doc or PDF file.
Note
To edit the Tests (e.g. for pre and post testing) download them as Word docs.

3. The Tests are mastery/diagnostic Tests.
That is:
Tests are provided by topic.
Each topic test has 1 or more test tasks.
Each tests task contains 3 test items.
Students must answer 2 or 3 items correctly to indicate mastery of that test task.
Scores of 0 or 1 indicate more teaching and learning is required.

4. For background information on using the MTSonline Test Item Bank download the Test Guidelines.pdf in the MTS Features menu (click on the Test Item Bank Guidelines link at the right of the Features menu).

1. The tests can be displayed via an electronic whiteboard.
2. It is suggested you open the PDF version of the Test for display via an electronic whiteboard.

1. The Record Sheet is used to keep student scores for each Test.
2. Download the Record Sheet as a PDF file and make a copy for each student.

1. There is a box to record a score of 0, 1, 2, or 3 for each Test task.
2. Over the school year teachers can gradually build a picture of student achievement.

Note
These Tests are best used as formative assessments.
Student achievement on the tests must be balanced with other formative assessments you make.
